Vilnius → Tallinn
There is no direct train or bus for the full run from Vilnius to Tallinn. Most travelers split it into two legs through Riga, usually with a night there, and honestly that is the better trip. But when a night in Riga does not fit your schedule, a private car can do it in one long day instead: door to door, no station transfers, no waiting on a platform with your cases.
By default we take the inland motorway north through Latvia via Valga, the faster of the two ways into Estonia, with a proper lunch stop in Riga rather than a service station. If you would rather see more of the way, we can route via the Hill of Crosses instead, or take the Estonian coast road through Pärnu, at the cost of a couple of extra hours. Either way, you arrive at your Tallinn hotel that evening, luggage carried, with the whole route explained as you pass through it.
Stops we can build in.
- Riga (lunch break)
- The natural midpoint and the reason to break the day here rather than at a service station. An hour or two in the Old Town or the Central Market before the second half of the drive.
- Hill of Crosses (optional)
- More than one hundred thousand crosses near Šiauliai, on the older route north out of Vilnius. Adds time each way if you take it instead of the direct motorway.
- Pärnu (optional, coastal route)
- Estonia's summer town, a long sand beach and a wooden old centre, if you route via the coast instead of the faster inland motorway through Valga.
What the price covers.
- Private sedan or van, with fuel, tolls and parking
- English-speaking driver for the whole day
- Hotel or airport door pickup in Vilnius
- A proper lunch break in Riga, not a service station
- Bottled water and child seats on request
- Door delivery to your Tallinn hotel
Comfort for the distance.
Sedan for up to three with luggage, van for up to eight. This is a long day in the car: tell us your group and case count and we send the most comfortable vehicle for the distance.
- Isn't this a very long drive?
- Yes, honestly. About seven and a half hours of driving plus a lunch stop in Riga, closer to nine hours door to door. Most of our guests split this into two legs with a night in Riga instead, and we can arrange that just as easily. This direct option exists for when a night in Riga does not fit your schedule.
- Which route do you take?
- The inland motorway via Valga is fastest and what we use by default. If you would rather see the Hill of Crosses or the Estonian coast through Pärnu, tell us on the form and we route accordingly, at the cost of a couple of extra hours.
- Can we stop overnight in Riga instead?
- Yes, and for most travelers we would actually recommend it. Book the Vilnius to Riga transfer and the Tallinn to Riga transfer separately with a night between them, and you get the Hill of Crosses, a proper look at Riga, and a shorter day each time.
- How many people and how much luggage fit?
- A sedan takes three travelers with cases, a van up to eight. Note any oversized items on the form so we send the right vehicle for a full day's drive.
- What does the price include?
- Fuel, tolls, parking, the driver, and door pickup and delivery, including the Riga stop. The lunch itself and any detour entries are extra and optional.
