Why this trip.

Four things that set it apart
01

A UNESCO peninsula at one speed

98 km of moving dunes between a freshwater lagoon and the open Baltic. We cycle, we walk, we sit. The itinerary leaves space for the place to do the work.

02

Stay in a fisherman's house

Three nights in a converted 19th-century cottage in Nida — pine cladding, a wood stove, a lagoon view from the upstairs window. Two rooms, never shared.

03

An amber forager at first light

The morning after a westerly storm, the seaward beach is the world's richest amber field. A local who has done this for forty years walks it with you.

04

Bicycles for the stay

The whole spit is flat and traffic-free. You ride at your own rhythm, with a guide on call rather than in front of you.

Day by day.

4-day itinerary · approx. 110 km

Each day is built around one or two anchor experiences with deliberate slack for free time. Departure timings adjust slightly with daylight and weather.

Klaipėda → Nida

Crossing onto the spit

Meet your guide at Klaipėda's old port. A short ferry across the Curonian Lagoon to Smiltynė, then 50 km of slow road through pine and dune to Nida. Settle into the fisherman's house, pick up your bicycles, and walk the lagoon promenade at sunset.

The crossing takes about ten minutes. From the moment you step off the ferry the air changes — pine resin, salt, and a bit of woodsmoke from the inland chimneys. Your driver-guide takes the unhurried inland road that hugs the lagoon, with stops at Juodkrantė's heron colony if the wind is right. By six you're in Nida; by seven you're walking the boardwalk past the painted weather-vanes.

Nida & Parnidis Dune

The Sahara at dawn, the lagoon at noon

Walk the Parnidis sundial trail at first light. Breakfast back at the house. Mid-morning bike along the lagoon path, lunch at a fish kiosk in the harbour, afternoon swimming or reading on the lagoon beach. Optional sunset walk to the Thomas Mann summer house.

Parnidis is a thirty-minute walk from the centre and the climb is gentle. From the top you can see Russia (Kaliningrad) on the south horizon and the open Baltic to the west; the sundial obelisk catches the first light. We send you up alone with a thermos and a printed map; your guide meets you for breakfast at half nine.

Juodkrantė

Witches' Hill & smoked fish

Cycle 20 km north along the lagoon path to Juodkrantė. Walk the wooden-sculpture trail at Raganų Kalnas (Witches' Hill). Late lunch of smoked perch at a working family smokehouse, then ride back to Nida by the seaward path.

The path is paved, flat, and shaded for most of the way. Witches' Hill is a 1979 sculpture park hidden inside a pine forest — eighty wooden figures from Lithuanian folk tales, all hand-carved, all weathering. The smokehouse is on a side street; the family started smoking eel in 1923 and have not stopped. You'll smell it before you see it.
